The first part of the PADI IDC or Instructor Development Course

After qualifying and gaining experience as a Divemaster you can start to move up the career ladder to become a fully qualified PADI Instructor. First step is the Assistant Instructor course during which can take anything from a few days to two to three weeks. This course consists of knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations; confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations; and open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations.

This certification qualifies you to conduct Discover Scuba Diving and the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty and Project AWARE Specialty courses. You can also teach academic presentations and evaluate open water diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor.

Student pre-requisites:

  • Minimum certification of Divemaster
  • Proof of minimum 60+ logged open water dives including night, deep and navigation dives
  • Certification as a diver for at least 6 months
