Diving in Hurghada

Hurghada was the first commercial dive base in the Red Sea and is now a thriving resort that caters almost exclusively to divers. It offers a fantastic choice of dive sites, many of which are within a 30 minute or 1 hour boat ride from resort.

Outstanding reefs, wrecks, drop-offs and drift dives are available, whilst Hurghada’s location also gives access to the legendary wreck graveyard of Sha’ab Abu Nuhas. Many divers who first visited Hurghada a few years ago are now coming back to take another look at the sheer range of diving that this exciting area has to offer.

Here is just a summary of what Hurghada has to offer divers of all levels. Divers' Lodge offer a personalised service and specialise in arranging tailor-made itineraries to ensure you get the most out of diving Hurghada. Please contact us for details.

Great Diving - whatever your experience…

With a variety of over 50 dive sites available less than an hour’s boat ride from the centre, Divers' Lodge Hurghada offers a wide variety of diving experiences catering for all different tastes.

Hurghada’s many dives sites offer an abundance of reef marine life, pelagic species and an incredible diversity of corals. Hurghada is a superb place to learn to dive and its many safe and sheltered dive sites offer plentiful reefs and superb visibility. The horseshoe-shaped reef of Sha’ab El Erg is just one of many such sites that are renowned for dolphins and turtles.

Photographers and divers of all levels will be spoilt by the magnificent marine life of Gota Abu Ramada, affectionately known as the Aquarium. This is an explorer’s dream. Lush hard coral gardens, wonderful clusters of brain corals and pinnacles packed to bursting with multicoloured angelfish, parrotfish and butterflyfish.

Discover new sites in the depths of Hurghada

Hurghada is also home to many deep dive sites and wrecks – many of which are only recently discovered. The spectacular marine park surrounding the Giftun Islands is a particular highlight of the area and offers more than ten sites and a huge variety of dive plans. Enjoy the rush of drift diving amongst the spectacular gorgonian fans, or descend deeper to the Black Canyon. This site is a firm favourite with Tekkies and arguably one of the best deep dives in the world.

Also situated within minutes from the centre you will discover some of the most exciting wrecks in the region including the new, celebrated Hebat Allah artificial reef wreck lying at 45m. Trimix divers will appreciate the Mobil Oil Tug Boat at around 100m and many other wrecks that are ideal for training dives, penetration and further exploration.

Diving further afield

Wreck divers are truly spoilt in Hurghada with its proximity to the incredible Sha’ab Abu Nuhas. Situated about halfway between Hurghada and Ras Mohammed, this reef patch lies next to a major shipping lane and it is home to four complete wrecks. Swim through clouds of glassfish in the beautiful Giannis D and the Chrisoula K, and see lionfish stalking their prey in the dark confines of the hold.

Day trips to Sha’ab Abu Nuhas are usually available at least once a week, weather permitting, or why not include a mini safari to maximise your diving time here. As well as the northern Red Sea, mini safaris and liveaboards are also available to sites south of Hurghada to take in the exciting Salem Express and the spectacular wall dives of the Safaga region.
